| 196 | Return-Path: From: PQUA32A@prodigy.com (MS ANN RABINOWITZ) Date: Wed, 10 Sep 1997 21:30:14, -0500 To: agoldber@direct.ca, fabrics@whc.net, kossey@nr.infi.net Subject: LEFTIN Dear LEFTIN Researchers: Thought you would enjoy this piece from "The South African Jewish Year Book, 1929"" LEFTIN, Louis, Managing Director, New Clare Smelting Works, Ltd., 204 Eloff Street Extension. Born in Russia in 1876, and educated there. Came to SA in 1894. Married in 1904 to Paula Rabinowitz; has four children. Postal address: P.O. Box 2482, Johannesburg. Best regards, Ann Rabinowitz pqua32a@prodigy.com From Lorraine Fisher's Mom: He was apparently so beautiful that he could pass off as a woman. He went off to England and somehow got the rights to the manufacture of Black & Dekker tools here in SA. SA was not allowed to import these things, and nor was England allowed to export to SA, so Louis, dressed as a woman, smuggled the plans and specs for B & D tools in his "bosom". | Leftin, Louis (I986)
