| Notes |
- Got his American citizenship by enlisting as an artilleryman in World War 1.
Served overseas in a Yankee regiment from Maine and made a lot of close friends. One was a Portuguese boy who he was with on the last day of the war when they heard shouting from the villagers that indicated that the war was over. They stood up together and some SOB German sent one shell that killed his friend - he never forgot that.
He was an amazingly gentle and wonderful guy and his sons still talk about him when they get together.
He was a Baal Tefilah like his grandfather.
At his funeral the Rabbi explained how the year before, at age 94, he had been reluctant to give him a Torah at Simchat Torah for the procession. Jake Perelson grabbed one and proceeded to dance around with it, as if to show him.
He had no enemies and was always making new friends.
He could not stand bigotry and unnecessary cruelty.
