- From Yoel:
"I know that the family left (or was expelled out of) Lithuania during World War I and spent most of it in Pinsk (BeloRussia (?)). That their big house was burned
down and that was rebuilt by them , I think on the same location. The family
was in the timber business, and I understand they were doing very well:
my uncle Yankele was very good at evaluations of forests, while my
crippled uncle was handling the accounts. My mother used to claim that she
got information that her brother Yakele went underground during World War II
and joined the partisans, but was killed by his Lithanian "comrades"
after the war when he uncovered himself and they discovered that he was
Jewish. We know that things like this happened. She also claimed that he was
married and had a son. I could never confirm it, and since I heard it
from my mother only when she was very old and not reliable, I doubt it."
