Zalman - the eldest child - emigrated to Sunderland, England, while his father Yehuda Leib Yankelovitch and remaining children went to South Africa. Yehuda Leib remarried and had several more children.
Zalman took British nationality around 1906; volunteered for BEF during WW1, serving in the front line in France for a considerable period, and gassed in the battle of Arras about 1917
